Macklemore and Ryan Lewis took home the award for Best Rap Album at the 56th annual Grammy Awards.

The Seattle duo won the award for their breakout studio album "The Heist," beating out Drake's Nothing Was the Same," Jay Z's "Magna Carta... Holy Grail," Kendrick Lamar's "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City" and Kanye West's "Yeezus." Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, who booked a performance at the awards show, were also nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year for "Same Love," Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Thrift Shop" and Best Music Video for "Can't Hold Us."

This is the first Grammy for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The hip-hop duo saw major success with their 2012 album, "The Heist," climbing the Billboard 200 and hitting platinum numbers in album sales. Other past winners in the Best Rap Album category include Eminem, Kanye West and Outkast.

The 2014 Grammys are hosted by LL Cool J at Los Angeles' Staples Center. The program, which features performances by big-name artists such as Beyonce, Lorde and Taylor Swift, airs on CBS.

Everyone Is Mad About Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Grammy Wins

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis swept the rap categories at Sunday night's Grammy Awards, picking up statues for Best Rap Song ("Thrift Shop"), Best Rap Performance ("Thrift Shop") and Best Rap Album ("The Heist").

A passionate debate about the Seattle rapper's likely win had been percolating on the internet for months. Many pointed to Kendrick Lamar's "Good Kid Maad City" as the LP that should have won Best Rap Album, and to Kanye West's "New Slaves" for Best Rap Song. Part of the controversy focuses on whether Macklemore is more a pop artist than a pure rapper, while others wonder if Macklemore, who is white, attracts the attention of Grammy voters who may not have otherwise paid attention to the category (Grammy voters don't cast ballots for every category -- they can vote for a maximum of nine categories and are supposed to focus on what they know).

The pair was also featured on the cover of this year's Grammy voters' guide.

Macklemore pre-empted part of the conversation by posting a screenshot of his text messages with Lamar. Macklemore and Lewis were set to be joined by Madonna for a performance of "Same Love" while 34 couples get married in the aisles of the Staples Center.

Here's how the internet reacted to their Grammy wins:

Some people were quick to offer up some counterarguments, too:

The 56th annual Grammy Awards can bow down, because Beyonce and Jay Z just teamed up for a performance of "Drunk In Love," stealing the show and further proving that they run the world.

Looking predictably stunning in a caged, thong onesie, Bey gyrated on a spinning chair, before being joined by a tux-clad Jay Z.

CBS discreetly confirmed rumors, with a commercial on Jan. 19 that just so happened to include the power couple among the list of performers, making for yet another surprise from the woman who shocked us with an unpublicized album in late December of last year.

Beyond Beyonce, The Grammys ceremony included a number of other big name acts, including Taylor Swift, Lorde, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry and Daft Punk.

Jay Z was nominated for nine awards, including Best Rap Sung / Collaboration for "Part II (On The Run)" featuring Beyonce, whose eponymous album will be considered for next year's nods.

Lorde took over the Grammy stage just minutes into Sunday's telecast to perform her hit "Royals." Donning uncharacteristically straight hair and a black-and-white pantsuit, the 17-year-old singer started with a stripped-down rendition of the smash song before crescendoing into the radio version.

Lorde was also up for four awards at the show, which was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "Royals" earned nods for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. "Pure Heroine," her debut album, was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album. Lorde was one of a handful of snubs in the Best New Artist category.

The singer saw a successful debut year in 2013, during which "Royals" sat at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks. Lorde also released "Tennis Court" and "Team," the latter peaking at No. 11.

Other performers at the 56th annual Grammy Awards included Macklemore and Ryan Lewis with Madonna, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. LL Cool J hosted the show.

Fresh off her sizzling GQ cover, Katy Perry appeared at Sunday night's Grammy Awards broadcast to perform "Dark Horse," he hit collaboration with rapper Juicy J. Perry was inside a crystal ball as the performance started. By the end, she was standing in front of a fire.

Perry received two 2014 Grammy nominations for "Roar," the first single off her latest album, "Prism." The track earned nods in the Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance categories, but the remainder of the record was not eligible for consideration at this year's ceremony. ("Prism" was released after the Grammy nominations deadline.)

Before the Grammys, Perry's last major awards show performance was at the American Music Awards in November of last year. That appearance was a source of some controversy after Perry performed the song "Unconditionally" while wearing a kimono, appropriating many other influences from Japanese culture. In the aforementioned interview with GQ, Perry brushed off criticism that her performance was racist. "All I was trying to do is just give a very beautiful performance about a place that I have so much love for and find so much beauty in, and that was exactly where I was coming from, with no other thought besides it," she said.

Robin Thicke took to the stage at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, performing his hit song "Blurred Lines" with the band Chicago. They started out old-school with a medley of Chicago's music, including "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?," before moving into Thicke's megahit.

"Blurred Lines" grabbed two nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Thicke's album of the same name was up for the Best Pop Vocal Album award. Thicke was a first-time nominee at the 2014 Grammys.

"Blurred Lines," which was written by Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell Williams, was released in July of 2013 and was the best-selling song of the year in the U.S. and U.K. Thicke made a splash at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards when he performed the song alongside a twerking Miley Cyrus. The performance was criticized by many for its alleged lewdness, sexism and cultural appropriation.

Thicke wasn't the only star to take the stage on Sunday. Other performers included Lorde, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Katy Perry and Madonna.

Keith Urban brought some country lovin' to the Grammy stage amid a hip-hop-heavy roster. The four-time Grammy winner performed his song "Cop Car" for the Grammy crowd on Sunday evening (Jan. 26) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Gary Clark Jr., who won Best Traditional R&B Performance earlier that night, joined Urban onstage. Clark was also nominated for Best Rock Song, for "Ain't Messin' Round."

Urban's appearance was the second time he's embraced a cross-genre performance for the Grammys' sake. He joined Miguel for a cover of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" during the Grammy nomination concert in December.

Urban received one Grammy nod, for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. He was featured with Taylor Swift on Tim McGraw's "Highway Don't Care." His previous wins were all for Best Male Country Vocal Performance, including songs "You'll Think of Me" in 2006, "Stupid Boy" in 2008, "Sweet Thing" in 2010 and "'Til Summer Comes Around" in 2011.

Other performers at the 56th annual Grammy Awards included Daft Punk, Stevie Wonder, Pink and Madonna.

The Grammy Awards loves Taylor Swift. The 24-year-old, who had won seven trophies from The Recording Academy prior to the 2014 ceremony, performed at the 56th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

Swift sang "All Too Well," a slow-burn track about heartbreak off her hit record "Red" that may or may not be about Jake Gyllenhaal. (Probably.) Swift teased her Grammys performance on Friday afternoon with an Instagram photo. Video of Swift's Grammys performance will be added to this post once it becomes available.

During the GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live! on Dec. 6 of last year, Swift performed "I Knew You Were Trouble," off her hit album "Red." The two-year-old release -- which came out after 2012's Grammy nominations deadline, and was eligible for consideration in 2013 -- was nominated for Best Country Album, Best Country Song ("Begin Again") and Album of the Year. (Swift received a fourth 2014 Grammy nomination for "Highway Don't Care," a collaboration with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban.)

Now that they've conquered the sun and clouds, two Calgary artists are reaching for the moon with their latest installation.

Caitlind r. c. Brown and Wayne Garrett have created another impressive light sculpture pieced together from recycled light bulbs, this time meant to resemble the moon.

The duo have been working on their commissioned piece, titled 'New Moon,' for the past few weeks in Lexington, Kentucky.

And despite delays due to weather complications, the massive, 20-foot illuminated orb was strung up on display at the Luminosity Art Ball for the first time Saturday night.

According to kyforward.com, Lexington started a city-wide light bulb drive to collect the materials needed for Brown and Garrett's latest creation, collecting more than 10,000 light bulbs since last fall. More than 5,000 of those bulbs have been used in the sculpture, so far.

The community also stepped in to help the Calgary artists, with student's from the Bluegrass Community and Technical College, along with a handful of volunteers, offering their time to help piece the sculpture together.

New Moon follows several other collaborative works by Garrett and Brown - past projects like 'Cloud,' an interactive light sculpture, and 'Solar Flare' have lit up Calgary streets and imaginations.

Story continues below the slideshow

"We make our art so people will touch it, so they'll feel like they're a part of it," Brown told kentucky.com of the pair's works.

"It isn't complete until they are standing under it, working with it and making it happen."

According to kentucky.com, New Moon will travel to Lexington's Triangle Park from Feb. 21 to March 31 as part of the Luminosity art festival, which will feature other works of light-based art.

When it's finally completed, viewers will able to manipulate the sculpture to show different phases of the moon.

Susan Boyle Reportedly Applies For Minimum Wage Job As Cashier At Ladbrokes

"Britain's Got Talent" star and multi-millionaire Susan Boyle has plenty of cash, but she's retained her humility.

The 52-year-old songstress has reportedly applied for a minimum wage job at Ladbrokes, a betting parlor in her hometown of Blackburn, Scotland.

“Susan Boyle walked into the shop and inquired about the job advertised in our window. We were all in shock,” said David Corr, the Ladbrokes manager who spoke with Boyle about the open position.

A witness tells London's The Sun newspaper that Corr initially chuckled at Boyle, thinking it was a joke. Once he realized that she was serious, though, he gave her all of the relevant information.

Page Six estimates that Boyle has a net worth of $33 million. The job will reportedly pay $10.65, or just a bit more than £6, per hour.

Apparently, Boyle just wants to get back to her roots. A spokesperson from Ladbrokes told Daily Mail that the singer had previously applied for a job with the company before she became famous. Blackburn residents regularly see Boyle out and about around town, and a community member who runs into her frequently said, "She is very down to earth and likes the simple things in life." Simple things, indeed.

In March of 2014, Boyle embarks on a two-month, 19-show tour throughout England and Wales. If she gets the job, she's going to have to ask for quite a lot of time off.

Khloe Kardashian and brother Rob were not prepared when Kim's breast milk started leaking on "Keeping Up with the Kardashians. "Your boob is like leaking out of control," Khloe told her. "What is happening?" She went on to compare it to a water fountain.

Rob's reaction was even more extreme. "What the f*ck?" he said. "That weirds me out. For real.” It was as if the siblings had never seen anything like it -- Kourtney must have never suffered this mishap in front of them.

As for Kim, she took it in stride, and even with a bit of curiosity. "It’s only on one side," she said. "Interesting.” She then proceeded to resolve the situation by stuffing her bra. The Stir's Lisa Fogarty thinks the leak was worth seeing because it proves that Kim gave birth. "It is worth noting that Kim does indeed have a baby hiding somewhere in the Jenner mansion, and if you don’t believe her, just check out how much her boobs are leaking," she wrote. "That will have to suffice for now, because we still didn’t get a peek at the cute tyke.”

With her marriage falling apart and nearing its end, Khloe admitted that she was basically homeless -- by her own personal choice -- on the latest episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." Even though Lamar Odom is no longer in the house, she couldn't bring herself to be there.

“I don’t want to be at home by myself. So, I’ve basically thrown all my bare necessities into some suitcases and I’m kind of living out of my car right now," she said. Khloe said she didn't want to sell her house, but knew she would have to. And apparently, she got to a place in her life where she was able to. "The Big Bang Theory" star, and newlywed Kaley Cuoco reportedly dropped $5.5 million for it.

Now Khloe is reportedly looking for a new place closer to mom Kris Jenner's home. Over at Hollywood Life, Chloe Melas said it "definitely hasn't been easy" watching Khloe's marriage crumble on television. It's become the main storyline of this season so far.

'Sherlock' Gives Epic Best Man Speech At Watson's Wedding

It was an epic and memorable best man speech on "Sherlock." Uncomfortable in the spotlight as much as he craves the recognition, Sherlock Holmes proved nevertheless both a master of the speech, as well as a buffoon. He recovered from early awkwardness to create a genuinely touching moment for his best friend. But then it just kept going.

"To the crowd, the speech comes off as self-indulgent and wildly tangential, he even insults them, and yet he ultimately wins them over because Sherlock -- the character and the show -- is totally charismatic and hits the right emotional buttons," wrote Entertainment Weekly's James Hibberd.

Things did get a little more complicated when Sherlock realized that there was a murderer in attendance. He had to deduce both the killer and their intended victim, all while keeping the attention of the audience with his never-ending speech. It was a masterclass in double-speak and misdirection, while still managing to squeeze in a fun murder mystery -- and even save the intended victim.

"Sherlock" wraps its season next Sunday at 10 p.m. EST on PBS.

This Frog Could Teach Us A Thing Or Two About Chivalry

Who said that chivalry is dead... in the frog world?

This photograph was captured by 27-year-old Kutub Uddin in the back garden of his home in the English seaside town of Bognor Regis, West Sussex. The frogs have been Uddin's pets for the past several months and he often lets them out to roam around his yard.

frog leaf

This little guy isn't the first to shield himself from the rain with a leaf. Another type of frog, in Indonesia, was found using a leaf as an umbrella last year. The photo was entered in a National Geographic contest, but editors later determined the frog was placed there to get the shot.

The red-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas) is not, in fact, native to southern England. These nocturnal carnivores are normally found in the tropical rainforests of southern Mexico, central America and northern South America. They're not endangered, according to National Geographic, but their habitat is shrinking.

American Black Film Festival To Celebrate Black Cinema With Hollywood Awards

As we make our way through the Tinseltown awards season, we shouldn't forget to look ahead to next month's American Black Film Festival Hollywood Awards.

The event, which recognizes actors and film producers of African descent in the motion picture industry, is set to take place Feb. 19 during a special five-minute Web show hosted by “Real Husbands of Hollywood” producer Chris Spencer. And according to the 46-year-old Los Angeles native, viewers should expect a “Publishers Clearing House”-esque show.

"I will be the Ed McMahon of today's times. Do you remember Publishers Clearing House when he would knock on the winner's door and deliver them a fat check? I'm gonna take it a step further," Spencer revealed in a statement to The Huffington Post. "The winner of the ABFF Hollywood Award won't have to wait to be home to see me. I'm coming to your house, your momma's house, your baby's momma's house, the dentist, the doctor, your dealer's. Anywhere we think you may be, I’m coming to give you your trophy."

Winners will be determined by popular vote of the general public, inclusive of the 90,000-plus American Black Film Festival alumni around the world.

There were a plethora of notable black performances and releases highlighting the black experience this past year, leading many to herald 2013 as the year of a renaissance in "Black Hollywood." Morris Chestnut, ABFF ambassador and Best Actor nominee for "The Best Man Holiday," is optimistic that the prevalence of black films will only increase.

"It's exciting to be a part of the resurgence of Black films. I feel that it is somewhat of a movement, a progression that so many films were this well received in one year,” Chestnut told HuffPost via email. “Hopefully it is a sign of finer things to come."

In addition to next month’s Hollywood Awards, the 18th annual American Black Film Festival is scheduled to take place in New York City, June 19-22. For a complete list of ABFF Hollywood Awards nominees and more information on this year’s festival, visit ABFF.com.
