WASHINGTON (AP) — Police and museum officials say the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum has been evacuated after a suspicious briefcase was found near an unconscious person in one of the galleries.
District of Columbia police spokesman Officer Araz Alali says the bomb squad is investigating the suspicious briefcase. He says the unconscious person is receiving medical treatment. Smithsonian spokeswoman Becky Haberacker says all visitors and staff were evacuated onto the National Mall about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday. She says streets on both sides of the museum were closed.
It was not immediately clear how long the museum would be evacuated.
